After installing the latest version of VLC follow these steps to Cast VLC to Chromecast
- Open VLC player and click on the Video tab and click on Renderer option. You will find them on the top of the player.
- Now, go to scan option.
3.Now the Scan option will actually SCAN the nearby devices. Now go to Video > Renderer > Chromecast.
4.Open the File you want to play Use the Media > Open File menu or just drag and drop a video file onto the VLC window. An option will appear saying Insecure Site. Go to View Certificate.
5. Choose to Accept Permanently.
After Accepting, you will be able to stream from VLC to Chromecast on Windows. As I mentioned earlier Vlc 3.0 is a beta version you may face errors and crashes during streaming videos from VLC to Chromecast.
Tried it multiple times with both 1st gen and 2nd gen chromecast, it never actually worked… Tried H.264, H.265, mpeg, avi, divx… nothing came through. I’m really looking forward to be able to cast from my pc.
Note that everything works fine from the mobile vlc app… which is strange.

Yes, that works for tabs and mpeg. Not AVI, mkv or h.264… I use videostream as well and it works. I just prefer VLC when watching on my pc, it’s a very good software.
I think you need to use HDMI that is better
